Still Chasing the Dream…

Pacific Coast Baseball League

It’s every boy’s dream to grow up and play Major League baseball for his home team. Only a few actually get the opportunity to pursue their dream profession, and even fewer actually play for their home team.

So he plays Little League, makes the All-Star teams, starts on his high school Varsity team, goes on to play college ball and gives the draft a shot, but comes away with only an education. Bummer!

With his dream officially over, and the nightmare of the working man’s reality barreling down on him, our dreamer is in for a rude awakening. So what happens to all of the dreamers? They can’t all end up in sports journalism. And if your name isn’t Kevin Costner, Billy Crystal or Garth Brooks, you probably won’t be invited to take batting practice with the Yankees or any Big League squad. Fear not! Slo-pitch softball is not your only option.

In 1993, James duPrey founded the Pacific Coast Baseball League (PCBL), which offers an organized alternative to softball, Over-the-Line, or doctoring your birth certificate so you can re-enter junior college with four years of eligibility. It is now owned and fully operated by Jesse Davis.

PCBL Action

The PCBL has 4 divisions to accommodate different levels of competition. Single A is the recommended entry-level league (enter here if you have a young team—“young” refers to team longevity, not player age). Double A features a higher caliber of pitching and steadier defense. The top talent can be found in Triple A and Majors.

Teams play on Sundays and show up to win. Games are held at a variety of local colleges and high schools, officiated by two CIF-certified umpires. Players understand the game within the game—like how quickly a dugout reacts when a lefty steps in: “Lefty!” O.K., so some of these guys never mentally matured past Little League, but with uniforms and crotch adjustments that would rival any big league club, the Pacific Coast Baseball League is a great way to live out your dream while balancing reality Monday through Friday.

Mission Statement

PCBL Mission

The Pacific Coast Baseball League was developed with the belief that individuals should have the opportunity to play baseball and participate in team sports in an organized and competitive manner, and to provide the respect that baseball as a sport deserves.

What is Pacific Coast Baseball?

Since 1993, the Pacific Coast Baseball League remains the premier adult baseball league in Southern California. We run five seasons and two tournaments each year, serving 120+ teams and over 2,500 players.

We are a non-profit adult sports organization and registration covers field rental, baseballs, insurance, officials, staff, equipment cost and operating expenses. Season rates may increase occasionally to offset increases in field rental and insurance costs. Tax-deductible contributions for team sponsorship are appreciated and help cover the cost of fields, trophies, and the league website.

Our Spring/Summer Season starts in February with tryouts and preseason scrimmages. League play begins in March with playoffs and Championship Games in August. The season is scheduled for 18 weeks on Sundays plus playoffs and a Championship. There is also an All-Star Game for every division in late June. Team fees include everything except umpire fees ($80 per game).

PCBL also has a Fall Season starting the first weekend after Labor Day (September) and ending mid-November. The Fall Season is scheduled for 10 league games plus playoffs and a Championship.

Levels of Game Play

Pacific Coast Baseball’s management believes in providing the chance to play baseball to anyone who’s interested and wants to play. Four levels of competition have been designed to provide a variety of challenges depending on skill and experience.

Major League and Triple A (AAA): Advanced Play
Primarily for players with college level or higher experience. Includes pros, ex-pros, college and high school varsity players.

Double A (AA): Intermediate Play
Primarily for players with varsity high school experience.

Single A (A): Entry-Level Play
Recreational level of play. Good for players with less than varsity experience, or those who haven’t played hardball recently and want to get back into the game.

PCBL teams play on many of Southern California’s finest fields. We recognize the need to provide optimal playing conditions for teams and players. Field access and expanding field options are among our highest priorities.
