Bats Show Up In Valley Kings Win Against Bruins

There were runs aplenty on Sunday at John H. Francis Polytechnic Senior High School, as Valley Kings beat Bruins 10-8. Valley Kings collected eight hits, while Bruins had 10.
Valley Kings built a 6-run lead in the fifth inning and then held off Bruins's charge. Bruins closed the gap by scoring on a walk, a walk, a single, and a fielder's choice.
Valley Kings got on the board in the top of the first inning after Sean Harris walked, and Isao Shimokawaji hit into a double play, each scoring one run.
Bruins tied the game in the bottom of the first thanks to a double by Chris C, and a sacrifice fly by Beckett.
In the bottom of the fourth, Bruins broke up the tie when Austin doubled, scoring one run. Then a double by Beckett followed to extend the lead to 4-2.
Valley Kings flipped the game on its head in the top of the fifth, scoring eight runs on three hits to take the lead, 10-4. The biggest blow in the inning was a single by Tony Sibrian that drove in two.
Hank Teverbaugh earned the win for Valley Kings. The pitcher gave up eight hits and eight runs (seven earned) over six and one-third innings, striking out one and walking six. Joel Lopez collected the save. Richard Lopez tossed one and two-thirds innings of zero-run ball for Valley Kings in relief. The hurler surrendered one hit, striking out three and walking none.
Kevin Fielding, Adrian Martinez, and Sibrian each collected two hits for Valley Kings. Harris and Sibrian each drove in two runs for Valley Kings. Valley Kings had a strong eye at the plate, accumulating 10 walks for the game. Joseph Ruffin, Anthony Rodriguez, and Harris led the team with two free passes each. Valley Kings ran wild on the base paths, amassing four stolen bases for the game. Valley Kings turned two double plays in the game.
